Shigin “Words of Mourning (Adachi Kanjō)”
Shigin “Words of Mourning (Adachi Kanjō)”
It is said that shigin chanted to remember the deceased at a funeral is called chōgin (a funeral shigin).
On a personal note, an acquaintance of mine passed away last weekend, and the wake is this evening.
Because of work I likely cannot pay my respects in person. I considered offering a chant here, but I felt my clumsy recitation would not do the departed any honor. Instead, I would like to express my condolences through a performance by Teacher Izumida Shishū of the Kanshin-ryū Nihon Kōdō Ginshikai.
I knew her only for a short six months after our first meeting, and never really had the chance for a proper conversation. She was very gentle and dearly loved shigin.
With hands joined in prayer.
